이제서야 광야에서 백마를 타고 올 초인을 목놓아 기다리고 있는 시인의 마음을 알 것도 같다. 끝없는 절망의 나락 속에서 그여 그 희미한 희망의 끈을 놓지 않으려는 시인의 그 애타는 마음을 알 것도 같다.

다시 천고(千古)의 뒤에
백마 타고 오는 초인이 있어
이 광야에서 목 놓아 부르게 하리라

영화 Dark Knight에서 고담시의 정의로운 검사 Harvey Dent는 “영웅으로 죽든지 아니면 오래 살아남아 악당이 되는 것을 보든지” 둘 중의 하나라고 얘기했다.

WAYNE: Exactly. Who appointed the Batman?
DENT: We did. All of us who stood by and let scum take control of our city.
NATASCHA: But this is a democracy, Harvey.
DENT: When their enemies were at the gate, the Romans would suspend democracy and appoint one man to protect the city. It wasn’t considered an honor. It was considered public service.
RACHEL: And the last man they asked to protect the republic was named Caesar. He never gave up that power.
DENT: Well, I guess you either die a hero or you live long enough to see yourself become the villain. Look, whoever the Batman is, he doesn’t want to spend the rest of his life doing this. How could he?

사람들의 탐욕과 무관심 속에서 태어난 야만의 시대에 우리들은 절망했다. 앞으로 우리에게 필요한 것은 무엇일까? 이육사의 그토록 원했던 초인이나 Harvey가 원했던 배트맨은 과연 우리 앞에 나타날 것인가? 이 야만의 시대를 어떻게 견딜 것인가?

차라리 영화였으면, 차라리 영화였으면 하는 시대를 우리는 살고 있다.
