WordPress 2.0.6 출시
여행을 다녀오는동안 WordPress 2.0.6 이 출시되었다. 이번 버전의 특징은
- 몇 가지 보안에 관련된 문제가 고쳐졌고
- 사파리 브라우저에서 HTML QuickTags 이 가능해졌으며
- 댓글을 거를 수 있는 기능이 추가되었고
- PHP/FastCGI setups 이 가능하다는 것이다.
끊임없이 프로그램을 보완 갱신하는 개발자들에게 고마움을 전하며, 버전 2.1을 기대해본다.
좋은 블로그 디자인
한때 디자인 업계에 발을 담근 적이 있어 가끔씩 좋은 디자인은 무엇인가 생각해보곤 한다. 물론 디자인이란 것이 워낙 주관적인 감정이 많이 개입되는 것이라 많은 사람들이 좋아하는 디자인을 만들어내기란 여간 어렵지 않다.
요즘 블로그 도구들은 다양한 디자인 테마를 제공하기 때문에 자신의 취향에 맞는 블로그를 쉽게 만들 수 있다. 때로는 너무 많은 테마 중에 어떤 것을 골라야 할 지 모를 정도로 선택의 어려움을 겪는다. 또 때로는 제공되는 테마가 마음에 들지 않아 자기만의 디자인을 해 보고 싶은 때도 있다. 다른 사람이 해 놓은 블로그 디자인을 가져다 쓰든지 자기 스스로 만들지 간에 몇 가지 원칙을 세워 놓으면 자기 마음에 맞는 디자인을 자기 블로그에 적용할 수 있을 것이다.
내가 생각하는 좋은 블로그 디자인은
- 단순하고 정직하며,
- (그래픽이 남발되지 않은) 텍스트 중심의
- 군더더기 없이 꼭 필요한 요소들이 균형있게 배열되어 있는
- Minimalist적인
그런 디자인이다. 이렇게 써놓고 보니 내가 말한 좋은 디자인은 내가 좋아하는 디자인이 되고 말았다. 그렇다면 결국 블로그 운영하는 사람의 취향이 충실하게 반영된 디자인이 좋은 디자인일 수도 있겠다.
블로그는 하루에도 여러 번 들러서 자기의 생각은 남겨놓는 공간이기 때문에 항상 내용 (Contents) 이 중심이 되어야 한다. 블로그 디자인은 내용이 잘 드러나고 읽기 쉽도록 해야 한다.
가끔씩은 달콤한 케잌이나 빵을 먹을 수 있지만 그것을 하루 세 번씩 주식으로 하라면 금방 질리고 만다. 하지만 밥은 별로 달지는 않지만 하루 세 번씩 평생을 먹을 수 있다. 내가 생각하는 좋은 디자인은 밥과 같은 디자인이다.
워드프레스에 적용할 수 있는 Minimalist 블로그 디자인을 찾았다. 밥과 같은 디자인을 찾는다면 한 번쯤 들려 볼만하다.
WordPress 2.0.5 Ronan 출시
Firefox, Ubuntu에 이어 WordPress도 오랜만에 새 버전이 출시되었다. 많은 부분이 바뀌지는 않았지만, 50 여개의 버그를 잡았다고 하니 조금 더 안정화된 버전이 아닐까 한다. WordPress 2.1이 빨리 나오길 기대한다. 10월은 이래저래 풍성하다.
Favorite WordPress Plugins
이 블로그에 WordPress를 사용하는 이유는 우선 Open Source Software 이면서 웹표준을 철저히 지킨다는 것. 그리고 PHP와 MySQL을 사용하고 있다는 것. 게다가 다양한 플러그인으로 블로그의 기능을 확장시킬 수 있는 것 등이다.
Business Blog Consulting에서 지난 3월에 내놓은 Favorite WordPress Plugins는 WordPress를 위한 플러그인 선택에 도움을 준다. 여기에는 약 20여 가지의 플러그인이 소개되어 있는데 블로그를 운영하는데 있으면 편리한 것들이다.
- PodPress – makes it super-simple to post podcasts; includes an inline media player
- Popularity Contest – offer a leaderboard of your Most Popular posts based on views and ratings
- Google Sitemaps Generator – creates a Google Sitemaps XML file. What’s killer about this is that it uses Popularity Contest’s ratings for the priority scoring that Google uses to determine how frequently to spider your pages
- Akismet – you’d be a fool to run a blog with comments turned on and not use this plugin to stop the flood of comment spam
- Adhesive – gives you the ability to flag certain posts as “Sticky” so they float to the top of the category page regardless of whether it’s the most recent
- Ultimate Tag Warrior – creates tag pages and a tag cloud
- EmailShroud – an email address obfuscator to thwart those evil email harvesters. Scans for email addresses in posts, but won’t work on email addresses hard-coded into your theme
- Transpose Email – another email address obfuscator. Doesn’t automatically scan for email addresses, but can be used from within your theme files
- WP-EMail – “Email this post to a friend” functionality
- WP-Print – Printer-friendly version of posts
- Subscribe2 – let your readers subscribe to your blog updates via email
- In-Series – link posts together into a series, regardless of dates posted or categories selected
- Permalink Redirect – fixes the canonicalization problem where the same page loads whether the slash is there or not
- Gravatars – puts the commenter’s “Gravatar” image next to their comment
- Subscribe to Comments – a commenter can check a box on the comment form so that they get notified of further comments to that post
- WP-Notable – places a row of buttons alongside your posts so the reader can easily add your post to their favorite social bookmarks service (del.icio.us, digg, etc.)
- A Different Monthly Archive – a pretty way to display links to archives by month
- Related Posts – link to related posts automatically based on the content of the post
- Related Posts for your 404 – your File Not Found error page can now suggest related posts to the misguided user
